Meet Sue Musson, Assessment Specialist

Sue is joining the Waypoint team knowing that each child is a unique learner with his or her own learning style, and when necessary, deserves a specific and appropriate learning plan to help guide next steps toward greater success in and out of the classroom. Waypoint answers this call.

After receiving her BS in Education, Sue began her career as a classroom teacher, and later received a Masters in Literacy and Assessment. She also supervised student teachers at the University of Louisville, overseeing their practicum experiences in classrooms, and joined K-Tip committees as a Teacher Educator to support new teachers entering the classroom for the first time. Most recently, Sue served as the Director of Elementary at Virginia Chance School and worked alongside classroom teachers, parents, and students for the past 30 years. This role provided impactful life-long learning and immense joy for Sue, and she treasures the enriching work, the many relationships made, and the overall incredible experience!

Sue is ready and excited to take her past experience and skills acquired, and shift her professional focus to working more directly with families and students with learning differences. Sue’s new role will be working with the Waypoint team by providing individualized literacy assessments in order to better understand a child’s areas of strength and areas of challenge. Using assessment findings, she will help develop a learning plan that outlines next steps in order to reach specific goals for a child. Sue’s training and experience with various literacy intervention programs will also support this important work and process. Sue looks forward to helping create a more successful and joyful learning path for a child.

Outside of Sue’s work life, she and her husband enjoy visiting their two grown daughters living in DC and Chicago, and being with their three grandchildren, with another on the way! Sue also enjoys gardening, cooking, traveling, reading a variety of professional books, along with fun books with her bookclub of 20 years, practicing yoga, and walking her dog, Winnie.
